One of the most beautiful villages in France: Les Baux de Provence

Today we will talk to you about Baux de Provence. This rocky shelf located in the heart of Provence, dominating Arles and the Camargue, offer a breathtaking panoramic view!

To return to the history of this city, it all started in the Middle Ages, with one of the largest Provencal families: the Baux family. Their home became a fortress and, serving as a strategic place, Louis III, King of Sicily and Count of Provence, grabbed the medieval castle after the death of the last princess of Baux and linked it to the crown of count. Then, when Provence was attached to the crown of France under Louis XI, the Baux entered the royal ownership. The city became later used as a shelter and an observatory about history, then it was gradually abandoned until Raymond Thuillie's arrival after World War 2. At this point, its tourism and cultural vocation began, when this dear Raymond opened the famous "Oustau de Baumanière", a gastronomic embassy where paraded the great of this world! Then, André Malraux entered the town under the protection of the Ministry of Culture and the Environment, which started a period of rehabilitation of the city which permitted it to become one of "The most beautiful villages of France”!
Indeed, this village is incredibly beautiful! It has an incredible historical and architectural heritage with 22 monuments:
The castle of Baux, Saint Vincent Church, the mansions of the sixteenth and seventeenth century, hosting art galleries and museums, like the Museum Yves Brayer and Santon Museum and the Louis Jou Foundation, not to mention the City Hall which occupies the former Hotel of Manville.
